Description
Species: Pacific Harbor Seal (Phoca vitulina richardsi)
Birthday: April 2023
Distinguishing Features: Turbo is light brown with darker brown speckles and spots. She also does not have her right front flipper.
Weight: 65 lbs.
Personality Traits: Turbo is very playful. She enjoys playing with her fish during her feeding times and interacting with the enrichment items, and her favorite being watching humans!
Interesting Fact: Turbo was born in the wild. She was found on a rocky beach north of Muir Beach in California when she was 2 weeks old and 15 lbs. She was rescued by the Marine Mammal Center for maternal separation, malnutrition, and trauma to her head, neck, and front flippers. Turbo’s right front flipper unfortunately became infected, and after multiple failed treatments, the decision was made to amputate that flipper. She was deemed non-releasable by NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) due to her lack of interest in chasing and eating fish, forelimb removal, and a very young state at the time of stranding. She arrived at Jenkinson’s Aquarium on January 17, 2024, and introduced to our seal habitat on February 12, 2024.
