JUNIOR KEEPERS

A great program for future marine biologists, Junior Keepers provides the opportunity to experience the aquarium from an employee’s point of view. Campers will assist with various tasks including animal enrichment, logging, & feeding. Sneakers are required.

Mondays: July 1-August 26
8:00am – 1:00pm
Ages 11-16 years old 

$80 per child / per day (additional $10.00 to purchase a Junior Keepers t-shirt) 

AQUARIUM EXPLORERS CAMP

Our Aquarium Explorrers will learn about the different animals at the aquarium and their relatives. From crafts & games to activites & live animal visits, this camp is sure to provide both a fun & educational experience for all who attend. Themes vary each week. Sneakers are required.

Ages 5-10 years old 

$150 per child / per week



* All Descriptions listed below include a tour of the aquarium (including behind the scenes), a private touch tank demonstration, watching a seal feeding and the opportunity to feed some of our fish and invertebrates!

2013 Aquarium Explorers Camp Descriptions

Session 1:     July 2 - 3

Celebrate Sharks:  Become a Sharkspert! During this exciting week about all things sharks, children will learn about many species of sharks and their special adaptations for survival. They will explore these amazing creatures and their relationships with other animals, including us.

 

Session 2:     July 9 - 11

Magnificent Marine Mammals:    Our harbor seals are the stars of the week, but Luseal, Seaquin, and Coral will share the limelight with other mammals of the sea.  Children will explore where these mammals live, their characteristics, and what is being done to protect them. 

 

Session 3:     July 16 - 18

Invertebrate Investigations:     Sea stars, urchins, snails, and crabs, oh my! We will take a field trip to the beach this week to see what animals the children can find here at the Jersey Shore. We will also look at the sand and shells and compare them to other coastal ecosystems. Your child will be an invert expert.

 

 Session 4:     July 23 - 25

It’s a Penguin Party!:     Meet our famous African penguins. There are 18 different kinds of penguins and your kids will recite them all!  They will watch a penguin feeding and discover what it takes to care for this endangered species. 

 

Session 5:     July 30 – August 1

Rainforest Adventure:     Journey down a jungle river, as we explore the tropical rainforest.  Talk to our colorful parrots, pet a Madagascar hissing cockroach and create enrichment toys for our monkeys, all while discovering why the rainforest is so important to our planet. 

 

Session 6:     August 6 - 8

Session 7:     August 13 - 15

Rockin’ Reptiles:  Our reptiles are ready to make new friends and show off their adaptations. Alligators, turtles, and snakes will make appearances with their handlers. Children will prepare food for a turtle and go behind the scenes to learn about the special care that reptiles require.

 

Session 8:      August 20 – 22

Amazing Amphibians:  Do toads really transmit warts? Will kissing a frog turn him into a prince? What kind of animal is a frog anyway? This week of camp will explore amphibian lifestyles and biology. Children will learn how to provide the right habitat for these mosquito eaters.

 

Session 9:     August 27 – 29

Our Big Blue Planet:  Is it Planet Earth or Planet Ocean? What simple steps can we take every day that make a difference? Learn some fun ways to live blue every day and reduce, reuse, recycle along the way. Children will learn what a vital role we play in preserving our blue planet’s ecosystem.
